“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”

Dr. Seuss

What is happiness?

We often ask ourselves this question in our search for true happiness. Some of us think that we will be happy when we find the right partner, others think we will be happy when we get that job promotion…. There are many things that we think will make us happy. But the fact is that they don’t. These are factors are external to us and we have little control over them.

True happiness is found within. When we have something that we are passionate about and can work towards it we find true fulfillment.

How often have you heard someone say, “I will be happy when I find the right partner” of “I will feel better when I get the promotion” only to find that any happiness gained from these experiences was limited and wore off after time. True happiness comes from within us. We choose happiness, it does not choose us.

To be truly happy, we must decide that that is what we want to feel. Happiness comes from the way we choose to view the world. It is a choice we make each day.

Happiness is one of the most important factors in our health. Lack of happiness and fulfillment in our lives leads to disease. When we are unhappy our body suffers. Our systems do not work as they should.

Our bodies become ill, we may gain weight as we eat to replace our happiness, or drink in the hope that we may find solace there. Or we may shop to the point where we put ourselves into debt, accumulating “stuff” in the hope that it wall make us feel better. Lack of self-worth is what leads to unhappiness.

During your day take the time to check in with your thoughts. Focusing too much on the past or the future will will detract from your happiness. While having a goal is important, too much focus on the future can be stressful, so planning is important, so you can focus on what needs to be done now, thereby removing the overall stress of the goal from your daily life.

True happiness comes from living a fulfilled life, a life you are truly passionate about. Most of us will not commit to doing what we love as we have been taught that it will not make us a living, or is not acceptable to the circles we mix in.

Ask yourself is it time to step out of your zone of comfort and do what makes you happy?

Is it time to take on the challenge of being true to ourselves and living the life we truly want?

Decide today to begin the change and make your ultimate life shift.

Be Amazing
